This malachite necklace is made by Navajo artist Pat Platero and signed on the back. The stone and setting measures 1.10" long by .9" wide. It comes on a 20" 1.8 mm oxidized chain that matches the look of the pendant.
Malachite has a very interesting history as a stone. It historically was used to produce copper and nearly 2 tons of copper was extracted from malachite mined from the Great Orme Mines in Britain almost 4,000 years ago. Nowadays malachite is valued more for its look in jewelry and metaphysical properties than for the copper content found inside.
